Science.gov celebrated its fifth anniversary on December 5th. Science.gov is a showcase gateway to science information. It consists of 50 million pages of science information from many US government web-sites and includes much content federated from 17 organizations within 13 federal agencies. These agencies form the Science.gov Alliance. Science.gov is the USA.gov portal to science. It is hosted by the DOE Office of Scientific and Technical Information (OSTI). Support for Science.gov is provided by CENDI, an interagency working group of senior technical information managers from 13 U.S. federal agencies.

The search technology behind Science.gov was developed by Deep Web Technologies. Much of the content within Science.gov is not available to surface web crawlers such as Google and can only be accessed with deep web federated search technology.

A history of Science.gov versions, features and dates is provided at the About Science.gov page.

See OSTI’s press release, Science.gov Celebrates 5th Anniversary, for more information.
